Kalon, Dr PemaYangchen was born in 1969 and did her schooling from Thimpu, Bhutan and UTCV School. She pursued her B.A. (Honors) in English Literature and B.Ed., from Delhi and Madras University respectively.
As a recipient of Fulbright Scholarship, she did her M.A. in TESOL and Doctor of Education from the University of Northern Iowa, USA. she was honored with ‘Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award’ by University of Northern Iowa, Graduate College for her Dissertation titled ‘Teacher Learning in a Tibetan School in Exile: A Community of Practice Perspective’.
She taught at TCV, Suja, Bir and at The Dalai Lama Institute for Higher Education in Bangalore as the English Lecturer and later served as the Vice- Principal of the institute.
She was nominated for Kalon in the 15th Kashag of LS in the 5th Parliament session and was passed by the house. She holds Department of Education as her portfolio.
Since she comes from a teaching background much work from her in making our schools a viable learning center is awaited to be seen. Tibetans around the world will watch her performance in her debut in the coming session. Since she emphasizes language and culture from day one many will observe her spoken Tibetan!
