A brief critique on MP Ven. Thubten Wangchen

MP Ven. Thubten Wangchen did his schooling from CST Dalhousie and later joined Namgyal Monastery where he studied Buddhist philosophy for 11 years. He is the founder of the culture center ‘Tibet House Foundation’ in Barcelona, Spain.

He was elected in the 15th and 16th TPiE from Spain as member from Europe. He is known to have engaged actively in the advocacy of Tibetan Culture and Human Rights issues and also works to gain support for the welfare programs in exile Tibetan community.

As a Parliamentarian, he occasionally talks about his advocacy work but rarely takes a clear stand on issues relating to Shugden and on Gaden Phodrang in the house.

During Tenpa Yarphel’s baseless allegation on Gaden Phodrang and Nechung, he remained insensible in the house while those who opposed walked out of the house in sheer disapproval. Cowards live in denial because it feels comfortable and much safer.

He is a good man but politically a dumb creature, a useful idiot for Tenpa Yarphel and his ilk. He showered praises on speaker khenpo Sonam Tenphel for reading a short speech in English! The dude was reading! That’s not public speaking skill. My sons can do better. In Tibetan we call it flattery. But for what? To what end?

When eyebrows were raised he had to clarify in the house. How come a former monk from Namgyal Monastery was too naïve to understand the baseless allegations on GadenPhodrang? Is he trying to show his foolish liberalism by doing so? For whom?

As a responsible MP he should raise the issue of drinking and rampant homosexuality (or thigh fuck to be precise ) and pedophilia in Tibetan monasteries.

Despite having elected from Europe irrespective of cholkha, his pride in his root is clear by accepting the invitation from Utsang Centrex to felicitate the Utsangpas elected in 16th TPiE. A thumbs up on that.
